NSS Camp Report 2021

In July 2020, Dr Ila Rathor and Mrs Ruchi Arora were appointed as Programme officers of the 2 NSS Units of the college which comprise of 200 active volunteers. During the COVID 19 Pandemic the volunteers contributed to the society through various activities like Mask Distribution, COVID Protocol Awareness activities and poster campaigns, Awareness Run, Stay Fit Stay Safe, and Vaccination Awareness through a 3-day Tika Utsavto motivate people to get themselves vaccinated against Corona Virus. Volunteers also registered as Young Warriors, a youth-led movement initiated by UNICEF through theYuWaah platform. The volunteers attended the orientation training and completed the first phase of the movement.

Webinar was organised on National Constitution Day, November 26, 2021. Prof Baljeet Singh Mann, Professor and Head, Department of Political Science, University of Jammu, delivered the Keynote address. Prof Mann traced the history of the creation of the Indian Constitution, highlighted major changes over the decades, and especially drew attention to the framework of the Constitution that ensures freedom and Equality. Mrs Rajbir Kahlon, Head, Department of History, Dev Samaj College For Women, Chandigarh, spoke about the democratic character of the Constitution to ensure individual liberty. In her address, Principal, Dr Meena Chopra, stressed the need for the students to be more aware of their rights as well as responsibilities. Dr Agnese Dhillon, Secretary, Dev Samaj College Managing Committee, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

7 Day Special NSS Camp was held from March 15-21, 2021, with the objective of developing a holistic personality of the volunteers and prepare them with the basic skills for the challenges of life. The theme of the camp wasSwaccha Bharat Abhiyan and Jal Shakti Abhiyan. Blood Donation Camp and Organ Donation Awareness Session was held in collaboration with PGI, ROTTO and SUKH Foundation on day 5 of the camp, March 19, 2021. Prof (Dr)Vipin Koushal, Additional Medical Superintendent, Department of Hospital Administration in PGIMER, Chandigarh and Nodal Officer of Regional Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (ROTTO), Dr Pranay Mahajan, Hospital Administartor, PGI, Chandigarh with his medical team and MrKaranjotThind, Transplant Coordinator ROTTO (NORTH) and Mr Amit Dewan, Founding Director, SUKH Foundation graced the occasion with their presence. Total 29 units of blood was donated, and volunteers pledged to donate organs. The ROTTO team also honoured the Principal and the NSS Core team for their efforts in creating awareness about the noble cause.

Sh Bikram Rana, State Liasion Officer, NSS, UT, Chandigarh also graced the occasion with his esteemed presence and motivated the students to serve humanity and always work to serve the society.

Events were organized on World Aids Day, Earth Day, World Labour Day and International Dance Day. Volunteers conducted a “Swaccha Bharat” survey in Burail village. On National Youth Day the volunteers cleaned the campus, pledged to save environment and visited Old Age Home in Sector 15, Panchkula. There they spent some time with the senior citizens who shared their experiences and wisdom with the young adults. The Units made material and monetary donations to the Home.

30 NSS volunteers assisted the health officials of Government Civil Dispensary, Sector 45, Chandigarh in the Pulse Polio Drive from January 31 to February 2, 2021. Their contribution was acknowledged by the district health authorities.

SwahaliyaBano, BA 3rd year, was selected for the North Zone NSS Pre Republic Day Camp 2020. Nandini and Aishwarya, BBA 1st year, participated in District Youth Parliament in December 2020. Kavya Mahajan, BA 3rd year, was adjudged the Best Volunteer of 2020-21 for her dedicated and sincere effort through-out the year.
